Ride #23 - Erin Ridge North
Ok, despite including the word "Ridge", Erin Ridge North is nowhere close to Braeside in terms of elevation (thankfully):
Erin Ridge North is a large neighbourhood. I'll need at least one, and possibly two more rides to finish it. But I finished the NE portion, including some rural roads.
Three of the streets took me right to the St. Albert border.
1. Edgewater Park, Erin Ridge North [map]
A lovely (and large!) stormpond with a walking trail on the right.
2. Coal Mine Road, Erin Ridge North [map]
Coal Mine Road was named for the Star-Key Mine, which was located 10 km east of St. Albert, along with other coal mines that were accessed from the road. Star-Key closed in 1979.
3. Intersection - Range Road 253 and Coal Mine Road [map]
Two roads diverged, and I was not sorry to travel both, because it was a beautiful evening 😉
O️n the right of the first picture is a row of old storage tanks, heavily covered in graffiti.
4. The Edge of Town [map]
Looking east from Coal Mine Road. Views like this remind us we do live on the prairie, even if city living sometimes makes us forget.
5. Oakmont Townhomes, Oakmont [map]
Although I was focused on Erin Ridge North, I went through this townhouse development so I wouldn't have to backtrack out of my way when I eventually return to finish off Oakmont.
That's the nice thing about this project - it's my party and I'll bike how I want to 😄
6. Eastbrook Place, Erin Ridge North [map]
It's just a single line of evergreens, but it makes the street feel like it ends against a forest. Also note the street hockey nets.
7. Elderberry Court, Erin Ridge North [map]
A future tunnel of green (it's more of a canyon for now).
8. Erin Ridge Lane, Erin Ridge North [map]
Another townhouse development. The row of buildings shrinking into the distance against the sky made for a neat shot.
